Questions About God

10 Honest Questions About God (and What the Bible Really Says)

Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time or you’ve believed for years, we all wrestle with questions about God. Is He real? Does He care? What is He really like?

At The New Parables, we believe asking hard questions is a sign of spiritual strength—not weakness. Our short films are designed to spark real conversations around timeless truths. Here are 10 common questions about God and what Scripture says in response.

1. Is God real? How can I know for sure?

While we can’t physically see God, we can see His fingerprints everywhere—in creation, in our hearts, and through Jesus.

  • Romans 1:20 – “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities… have been clearly seen…”
  • Hebrews 11:6 – “Anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

2. Why does God allow suffering and evil?

God allows free will, which makes love possible—but also brings brokenness. Yet, He promises to bring good from pain and one day make all things right.

  • Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him…”
  • John 16:33 – “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

3. What is God’s purpose for my life?

You were created on purpose and for a purpose—to know God and make Him known.

  • Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord…
  • Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…”

4. What is the Trinity? How can God be three in one?

God exists as one Being in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It’s a mystery, but it reflects His relational nature.

  • Matthew 28:19 – “…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
  • John 14:16–17 – Jesus speaks of the Father and the Spirit, showing their distinct but unified roles.

5. Does God hear and answer prayers?

Yes. God hears every prayer—even if the answer looks different than we expect.

  • 1 John 5:14 – “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
  • Jeremiah 29:12 – “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

6. Is God angry, loving, or both?

God is both holy and loving—He hates sin because it hurts His children, but He loves you deeply.

  • Psalm 103:8 – “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.”
  • John 3:17 – “God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

7. Can I really be forgiven by God—no matter what?

Yes. No sin is too big for God’s grace when you come to Him with a sincere heart.

  • 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…”
  • Isaiah 1:18 – “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…”

8. Why does God feel distant sometimes?

Sometimes our feelings don’t reflect reality. God may feel distant, but He has promised to be near.

  • Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted…”
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 – “He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

9. How can I grow closer to God?

By spending time with Him—in prayer, Scripture, worship, and community. He invites you into relationship.

  • James 4:8 – “Come near to God and He will come near to you.”
  • John 15:5 – “If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…”

10. What does it mean to fear God?

It doesn’t mean being scared—it means having deep respect, awe, and reverence for who He is.

  • Proverbs 9:10 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…”
  • Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.”
